Parkinson’s Friendly Décor Ideas for this Christmas

Parkinson’s Friendly Décor Ideas for this Christmas

Christmas brings with it an opportunity to infuse some creative ideas into your home décor. However, the idea of decorating the home on Christmas can be a tedious job if you are dealing with Parkinson’s. 9zest shares a few quick and easy decoration ideas that will help you overhaul your living space this Christmas, even with Parkinson’s.

No Tree? No Problem!

If your loved one(s) will arrive on Christmas Eve and won’t be able to help you with gigantic Christmas tree decorations, then worry not. A vase filled with evergreen clippings is a handy stand-in for a Christmas tree. Make it look Christmassy by hanging ornaments onto the branches and piling presents beneath. Ask you caregiver to change the water every day to keep the greenery looking its best.

Use homemade decoration items

Using handmade decoration items will give you more joy while decorating up your home. You can fill like-sized canning jars with ornaments, tinsel and greenery for table decoration.

Colorful fall leaves are one of the nature’s best decorations. This will give you an excuse to get outside and collect some of the most beautiful leaves around. Glue them on the tablecloth to spruce your living space for the holiday season.

Simple Christmas crafts

Some simple holiday crafts can turn your home into a place full of cheery holiday atmosphere. When crafting, don’t hesitate to ask your caregiver’s help. The best crafts are those that are simple to understand and do not have tiny pieces. Here are simple Christmas crafts for Parkinson’s fighters.

Door Hanger:  Just decorate a mitten in whatever way you can, attaching a rose or holiday novelty item. Then hang with a hook.

Gift Baskets: Gift baskets are very satisfying and simple Christmas crafts. Based on your choice, you can decide what to put in the baskets – as gifts, of course.

Waterless Snow Globes: Since making water-filled snow globes could be pretty tricky, waterless ones are much easier and still accomplish the same goal.

Mason Jars: Skip the breakable ornament ideas. If you have an old spice rack lying around, you can arrange three mason jars in a row. Stick printable Christmas flake (available for sale in stores) directly to the jar.

Red and white flower arrangement

Flower arrangement in Christmassy colors is a great way to splash up an otherwise dull space. Right color co-ordination is the trick to making your room decoration more noticeable. Red roses in a white flower vase or white flowers in a red vase will instantly grab everybody’s attention.

Pin up some memories

Christmas is all about spending the good time with friends and family. You, too, can drape your home with memories with an interesting and less time-consuming idea. Keeping in mind that there is very little that you can do here due to mobility issues, use Christmas cards to decorate your dining area. Avoid taping them on the wall as you would like to take them off after Christmas. Using a double-sided tape to hang greeting cards (that you receive every year) can leave adhesive’s marks behind.

Things to keep in mind: You can indulge in these fairly easy decor’ ideas if you:

  • Ask someone to have all the supplies needed for the project ready.
  • Make sure that you have plenty of space to move around comfortably.
  • Have extra volunteers to help if needed.
  • Have plenty of time to work on a decorative item.

Remember, your fingers may get a bit slower due to Parkinson’s during the entire process. Don’t get stressed, slow down as patience is the key to a blissful Christmas celebration.
